Harishchandra Jadhav is a strong example of a hopeful man who desired the well-being of his family and fellow villagers for years, but his hope was really met after our intervention. He earns his livelihood by doing labour work usually on the leased farm and makes roughly Rs. 250 per day. His irregular nature of work made it even more difficult for him to survive with his 8 member family. His hamlet has 17 houses in total, and none of them had a household toilet or potable water supply at home until a few years ago.
The water from the only borewell in the hamlet dug about 10 years ago wasn’t potable enough. This impacted the health of villagers and it kept deteriorating. On the other hand, they had to tread long distances to defecate in a safe open space every day. These multifold issues were dealt with proper planning and execution by us. After identifying a suitable area in the hamlet, an elevated storage reservoir was erected. It’s been three years since both these schemes have been implemented in this tribal village (adivasiwadi) in Chandore Gram Panchayat, rural Raigad and today all the villagers are extremely content and display great ownership towards the benefits they have received. Besides, the spread of diseases and general well-being has improved manifolds in the hamlet.
