The Swades Foundation believes in creating sustainable livelihood programs to ensure an empowered future for Rural India. In the hamlet of Karanjmal (Mahal Block, Raigad) Swades started training community members on a variety of livelihood enhancement opportunities including cultivating turmeric, vermicompost and sewing.
Ashwini & Laxmi took the lead in creating women’s Self Help Groups within the hamlet and training its members. Thanks to them, today all the women are trained in sewing and making a substantial living. They also make cloth bags and sanitary napkins; and sell turmeric, pickle, papad, amla (gooseberry) candy and chutney.
Recently their Self Help Group participated in the District level Agriculture exhibition to sell the village grown products and received appreciation from Dila Parishad, Raigad. The Swades Foundation salutes the spirit of Laxmi and Ashwini and supports them wholeheartedly in their mission of creating women entrepreneurs in their district.
