The lockdown made it hard for people living on daily wages, as they struggled to ensure daily meals for their families. Thus, Swades Foundation pressed upon fulfilling the immediate needs of the community – Food and Daily Essentials.
The ‘Grocery and Daily Essential kits’ that Swades provided included cooking oil, sugar, salt, masalas, tea powder, onion, potatoes, pickle, dals such as tur dal, moong dal, chawli, bath soap, washing soap, toothpaste, matchbox, and biscuits. The kit supplemented the government ration of wheat and rice.
The planning was meticulous – since not all members of the Swades team could be on the field, they were in constant touch with our 1000+ Village Development Committees.
In coordination with BMC, Swades identified Government and private hospitals like CAMA, Bhabha, Cooper, Masina, KEM and Sion hospital involved in the management of COVID-19 cases. With our partner Ratna Nidhi Trust, we supported meals to homeless, migrant workers and slum dwellers across Mumbai. During the first and second wave, Swades Foundation has ensured over 3,60,000 meals for the needy.
Swades Foundation has supported the District Administration of Raigad in ensuring successful COVID-19 vaccination across the 7 blocks of Raigad. For this, Swades Team first addressed covid-19 hesitancy and mobilized the community through virtual consultations with experts and with the support of community opinion leaders and stakeholders. Our team also conducted a survey for uptake of COVID-19 vaccination in rural Raigad. Swades Foundation also supported the Raigad District Administration’s Door to Door vaccination camp with 3 mobile vaccination vans. These vans have ensured vaccination in the remotest parts of Raigad. So far over 45,000+ rural community members have been vaccinated.
