Kamal Jadhav was born and brought up in the so-called backward tribes and growing up lead her village as a sarpanch makes the story Kamal Jadhav truly inspirational and a shining example of the essence of Swades’ work i.e empowerment Kamal belongs to backward Vibe of Katkari and lives in Khamgaon district where the Swades interventions are currently active.

Kamal attended the 2-day PRI training conduct by the Swades Foundation where she got numerous insights on her rights. During the training, Kamal also learnt that even woman sarpanch can hoist the flag on the country’s Independence Day and she wished to do so immediately. The Swades Team worked towards making her dream come true and on 15th August 2014 (India 67th Independence Day) Kamal became the first woman sarpanch In her community to hoist a flag and celebrate the country’s freedom. I was delighted to know that even a woman sarpanch can hoist the flag.
